Haggard Boxcar Festival to be held for anniversary of Merle Haggard's death

In honor of the one year anniversary of Merle Haggard's death, multiple events will be held around Kern County over the next week.

Haggard Boxcar Festival (to celebrate the grand opening of Haggard House)

  • April 9, 2017
  • Kern Pioneer Village
  • Gates open at 11:30 a.m.
  • Noon - 6 p.m.
  • $20 General Admission tickets

The newly restored boxcar home will be open for public display on that day.

The Haggard Boxcar Festival main stage lineup:

  • James Carothers from noon to 1:30 p.m.
  • Johnny Owens & The Buck Fever Band (with Special Guests) from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Ben & Noel Haggard and The Strangers from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Other events:

  • On Wednesday, April  5, Country Dancing at Kern Pioneer Village will be held at 6 p.m.
  • On Friday, April 7, JC’s Place, 1901 Chester Ave., will celebrate the boxcar opening by hosting free line dancing at 6:30 p.m. Tastries Bakery, located in the same building, will sell guitar-shaped cookies during the festivities.
  • The Bakersfield Music Hall of Fame, 2231 R St., will host Boxcar Education Day on Saturday, April 8 at 11:45 a.m.
