A fire broke out at a home in east Bakersfield early this morning.
It happened just after midnight at 316 Wilkins Street, just off of Brundage Lane. One out of the five family members living inside the home said they were all asleep when their dog was barking more than normal. The barking woke her up, she noticed the house was on fire, and she quickly notified the rest of her family. They immediately evacuated the home.
The family says the fire almost spread to the other home next door. The sister said they were worried about the family living there because they have an autistic son, but they are all safe.
The family says their dog helped save their life.
The Bakersfield Fire Department was able to get the fire under control. Fire officials are still investigating the cause of the fire. No injuries were reported.
