CHP  officials said on Wednesday that SR-178 through the Canyon has reopened in both directions after a rockslide closed the highway on Tuesday.

Rain made  getting around town difficult for some people in Kern County as officials with the California highway patrol closed the Kern River Canyon due to mudslides on Tuesday.

CHP closed the highway due to safety concerns and says anytime it rains for a long period of time there’s a good chance mudslides can happen along Highway 178.

The storm has caused problems for everyone trying to make it home or just passing through.  Some drivers decided to try and wait it out while others decided to take a different route.

CHP says things got so bad, that one of their patrol cars was hit by one of these rocks.

The highway was reopened after 1:00 p.m.
