On February 6th, 2016, at about 12:00 pm the Kern County Sheriff’s Office Air-5 Unit was requested by the Kern County Fire Department to assist with a possible hoist rescue for a reported victim of a stroke.

The location, inaccessible to vehicle traffic, was on a hiking trail known as the “Jar Trail” near Highway 178 and the mouth of the canyon.

Air-5 responded to the area, immediately located the scene and was able to land nearby. A rescue crew member contacted and assessed the patient at the scene.

Rescue crews coordinated a plan to load the patient into Air-5 and fly the victim to an awaiting Hall Ambulance crew.

The patient was delivered and transferred to Hall Ambulance for continued medical treatment without incident.
