The Kern County Sheriff's Office was looking for several people suspected of running away after a pursuit in Northeast Bakersfield on Tuesday morning.
Deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop at Shattuck Avenue and Bryn Mawr Drive when the suspects drove away, eventually running away from the car, KCSO spokesperson Ray Pruitt said.
A handgun was found in a nearby yard, though investigators aren't sure if suspects threw the gun away or if it's even related to the incident.
Investigators have set up a perimeter in the area while they search for the suspects.
The search scene is also near Bakersfield College, but it's unknown whether the campus is impacted by the unrelated police activity.
