BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — As search and rescue crews continue to look for several missing people who reportedly fell into Kern River, officials are trying to get the word out about the river's deadly waterways.

KCSO is reaching out beyond Kern County by inviting Los Angeles news outlets to a presser to help inform out-of-town people about the dangers of the Kern River and other bodies of water.

The presser will be held on Thursday at the Mouth of the Canyon at 11 a.m.

Officials say since 2000, 96 people died in the river with 39 of them being from out of town.
