The Kern County Fire Department could have 18 new firefighter positions for a two year period.
Chief Brian Marshall asked the Kern County Board of Supervisors to authorize a $4 million grant with funds from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
The goal of the grant is to help make sure each fire station is staffed with four firefighters.
