Kern County has received 7 reported cases of salmonella that may be tied to outbreak that is currently under investigation.
A number of these local salmonella cases have reported eating Mexican-style soft cheeses, including potentially unpasteurized cheese.
These cheeses are often made in unsanitary conditions with raw, unpasteurized milk.
Michelle Corson with the Department of Public Health Services in Bakersfield said, "We recommend that Kern County residents purchase cheeses made by licensed manufacturers and kept in refrigerated cases at retail stores."
