The Kern County Sheriff's Office identified the driver of a car that was killed in a crash near Shafter on Saturday. Eric Gracian Nunez, 33, died after his car left Highway 99 north of 7th Standard Road.
At the time of the accident, the California Highway Patrol determined that Nunez's Honda Accord was traveling at a high rate of speed when he lost control. The car traveled onto the west dirt shoulder of southbound Highway 99, where it collided into a raised rock embankment. The vehicle overturned and Nunez was ejected. He died at the scene from his injuries.
It is unknown if alcohol and or drugs are a factor in this collision. The collision is still under investigation.
