A Lerdo Jail inmate filed a lawsuit again Kern County after she was injured when another inmate attempted to take over a transport van and escape Lerdo Jail.

Joann Rojas and seven others were inside the vehicle to be transported to a Delano court house in March 2016. Ramon Castro slipped out of his handcuffs and into the driver’s seat.

He tried to escape the facility with the vehicle but was eventually detained.

Rojas filed the lawsuit, stating the deputies in charge of the van were at fault for the incident.
