Local BMX group in limbo after trails are set to be plowed down for new housing development

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The BMX community has viewed the R and R Trails off Morning Drive and College Avenue as a sanctuary for the past five years.

Rocky Studer and his son share a mutual love for BMX and built the trails together. In it's five years, the trails have grown in the number of jump as well as riders. Many of the community viewing the course as a part of their family. But the trails are located on private property.

According to Bakersfield City Planning documents, two single-housing developments are set to be constructed in the future where the trails are located. Those units will consist of more than 300 homes. As of now there is no set time table for the beginning of construction.
