Local Dodgers fans excited about the team's first World Series appearance since 1988

Local fans watched the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Chicago Cubs in a blowout game Thursday night in game 5 of the National League Championship Series.

The Dodgers are heading to the World Series for the first time in nearly 30 years, their last appearance was in 1988.

Both Dodgers and Cubs fans packed into Cubbies Pizza in northwest Bakersfield to watch the Dodgers take the series win, 11-1.

August Young was born and raised in Bakersfield, and has been a Dodgers fan since birth.

His mom, Connie, was five months pregnant with him the last time the Dodgers were in the World Series.

Connie herself is a Cubs fan, so the Youngs eagerly  watched Thursday night's matchup.

She didn't consider the turnout of the game a total loss, since her second favorite team is the Dodgers.

August Young described the win to be "destiny,"  and has predictions for the World Series matchup.

"It feels like their year, I hope I'm not jinxing it, if they play the Yankees we should be good," Young said.

The family rivalry isn't over with the Cubs out of the picture now, since Young's fiance is a Yankees fan.
