The Community Action Partnership of Kern and the Molina Foundation brought more than 30,000 new books to children around Kern County.
The book will be distributed to more than 70 different schools, child care centers and other community agencies that serve low-income, high-need populations.
Studies have found that there are as few as one book per 300 kids in low-income neighborhoods.
Kern County routinely ranks among the worst in the state in reading.
