Local student pulled out of class for green hair on St. Patrick's Day

Posted

While most people wear green to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, one little boy wanted to do something different for school today.

Stephen Wilson is a third grader at Seibert Elementary School. He asked his mom to spray his hair with green hair spray, but when he showed up to school, he was pulled out of class.

Stephen says he wanted his hair green so his classmates wouldn’t pinch him. The green paint is hair spray that washes off in the shower.

The school told mom that the green hair violated their dress code and was a distraction to the other students. His mom says he wasn’t allowed to go to recess and had to have lunch in the office. He would spend the rest of the day doing schoolwork, but not in his regular classroom.

Stephen’s mom says his green hair is no different than a child wearing a green shirt or hat.

Steven says he felt like he got in trouble and says he didn’t understand why other children were allowed to stay in class with green leprechaun hats.

We called the school and they referred us to the district. The district said they were not aware of the issue and told us they would look into it. So far, we  have not heard back.
