The scorching hot days of summer are here and people across Bakersfield are flocking to local pools and spray parks to beat the heat.

While youngsters opted to get wet in spray parks throughout town, some residents chose to cool down at McMurtrey Aquatic Center.

Although many are used to the triple-digit temperatures some say it beats the cold.

"I lived in Chicago for a couple years and it got down to  negative 48 there and that was really bad but I don't know if I would take that over the 105 degrees,” said Mat Prasser, Bakersfield resident.

Today is expected to be one of the hottest days of the year and McMurtrey Aquatic Center expects to see lots of people as the heat rises.
