The Lagos family relocated from Bakersfield, California to Charleston, South Carolina in January.
When they moved, they didn't anticipate they would have to evacuate their brand new home under an evacuation order.
It "looks like some movie that we are just watching, but it's not real, but it's really sad," said Maria Lagos.
Her daughter, Lara Henry still lives in Bakersfield and said that she worries for her family. However "as long as they're okay, that's all that matters," said Henry optimistically.
Lagos said when she turned on her television and saw Nikki Haley, Governor of South Carolina call for evacuations, she did just that.
She wasn't alone.
"We got terrible traffic, because everyone evacuated at the same time. So, we drove about 12 hours yesterday," Lagos recalled.
She said she packed a backpack, but her family members were of the greatest value.
The family has been staying with her sister in Tennessee.
