Luigi’s Delicatessen and Wine Shop was named Senate District 14’s “2017 Small Business of the Year” at the California Small Business Day 2017 awards ceremony in Sacramento this week.
The establishment has been at its present location since 1910 and is one of Bakersfield’s oldest continuous family operated businesses.
Senator Andy Vidak recognized the shop as the winner.
"This is one of the greatest honors we have received," Gino Valpredo, co-owner of Luigi's, said in a press release.
The business featured a grocery, a cafe, a bakery and a gasoline station early on.
