BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — A Bakersfield man is facing 80 years to life in prison after a jury found him guilty of shooting and killing his girlfriend in 2018.

On Thursday, District attorney Cynthia Zimmer announced the conviction of Carlos Garcia Jr.

Zimmer says in May of 2018 Garcia and his then girlfriend, 24-year-old Alyson Muniz, were arguing about their relationship in the front yard of Abbot Drive in Northwest Bakersfield. After the argument, Garcia followed Muniz into the home where he assaulted her before shooting her in the head.

Garcia ran away but officials were able to arrest him six days later in Lost Hills.

Garcia is scheduled to appear in court on July 11 for his sentencing.
