Bakersfield Congressman and House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy issued the following statement in response to the retirement of Justice Anthony Kennedy.
“Justice Anthony Kennedy was a thoughtful jurist whose decisions have had a remarkable impact on our nation. As a son of Sacramento, Justice Kennedy is an example of the great heights that Californians are capable of ascending. I know many Californians take inspiration from his example.
I thank Justice Kennedy for his three decades of service to our country, and wish him a well-earned retirement. I trust President Trump and the Republican Senate will move expeditiously to fill the High Court’s vacant seat with a Justice who will decide cases based on the text of the Constitution and the rule of law.”
