NAACP community meeting asks for unity

Posted

Members of the NAACP hosted a community meeting on Monday night that brought together more than 18 local organizations.

The meeting was a call to action after weeks of violence in our country and right here in Kern County.

Instead of talking at a podium, everyone in the room was put into groups with the organizations they'd like to be a part of or volunteer for.

The meeting was scheduled before a violent weekend this past weekend in Bakersfield where 14 people were shot at a party on Saturday and another man was killed on Sunday morning in front of his children.

The organizations were asked to take action instead of just speaking out when there's a tragedy and understanding each other’s differences while being respectful.

The NCAAP says they will continue to have these meetings once a month. The next one is already scheduled for August 15th at 6 p.m. at True Dominion & Power Ministries.
