The Bakersfield Police Department was monitoring a funeral Saturday near Wilson Rd and Wible road at the request of the decedent's mother.

Officials said a larger crowd gathered and officers saw several small fights among the crowd.

At the request of the mother, officers assisted in dispersing the crowd.

According to officials, just before 4:30 p.m. officers were dispersing the crowd and an officer who was videoing the gathering was assaulted by Antwan Rowel, 26.

Rowel was taken into custody after a brief struggle and determined to be on Post Release Community Supervision.

Rowel was booked into the Kern County Jail for assaulting a peace officer, resisting arrest, causing injury to a peace officer and a probation violation.
