CHP officials say a female passenger is dead and the driver is arrested for manslaughter after a car crashed into a wooden power pole on Famoso- Porterville Hwy at Cecil Avenue in Delano early Sunday morning.
CHP officials said at around 2:03 AM, Bakersfield communications center broadcasted a collision involving a vehicle versus a pole.
Officials say a man driving a 1992 Lexus was traveling south on Famoso- Porterville Hwy when it ran off the roadway and struck a large pole.
A female passenger was killed and the driver was identified as Jose Alfredo Garcia.
Garcia sustained moderate injuries and was transported to Kern Medical.
Officials determined Garcia was under the influence of a drug and was arrested for gross vehicular manslaughter.
CHP officials said that Garcia will be booked in Kern County jail once he's released from the hospital.
The identity of the female passenger will be released at a later time by the Kern County Coroner.
