The California Highway Patrol says a man who was hit and killed on Interstate 5 was walking in one of the lanes early Friday morning.

According to the CHP, an Hispanic man in his 40s was walking across the I-5, was in the No. 4 lane around 3:51 and ended up in the path of a tractor-trailer. 

The driver of the tractor-trailer told the CHP that he had no time to react when he hit the man. The driver's big rig is being inspected. He is cooperating with investigation.
