Multiple homes in East Bakersfield have been evacuated due to a gas leak Wednesday morning.

According to Bakersfield Fire, Pacific Gas & Electric crews were working to fix a light pole when they accidentally hit a gas line in the area of Columbus Street and Alturas Drive.

That caused a gas leak leading to the evacuation of eight homes in the area.

It's not known when the leak will be sealed.
