BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — According to the City of Bakersfield, the planning commission has approved the plan to rename Cottonwood Road to South Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard on Tuesday, May 14.
The Kern County Board of Supervisors passed the following motion:
“Adopt resolution and make findings as recommended by Staff to rename the identified road section to South Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard not to become effective until the City Council of the City of Bakersfield adopts a Resolution approving the name change for the portion of Cottonwood Road located under City jurisdiction, the Kern County Public Works Department provides written confirmation of new street sign installations and any required State of California Department of Transportation signs to be replaced are identified and coordinated with State of California Department of Transportation and the City of Bakersfield for a replacement plan, including identifying funding and timing for replacement.”
The city council will now adopt a resolution.
