Posted

Los Angeles police said three people are dead and at least 12 injured following a shooting at a house party.

Police said it happened in West Los Angeles around 12:30 a.m.

Officials said about 50 people were running from the residence which police described as a makeshift restaurant.

ABC7 Los Angeles said according to the owner of the restaurant, there was a birthday party going on when an argument broke out between one group and a group of three. According to police, the three people left, came back with guns and started shooting.

Police said witnesses described the location as a popular reggae spot.

"It's a single-family residence that was kind of a makeshift restaurant. It has canopies; they have a DJ, they have tables set up to play dominoes," said LAPD Sgt. Frank Preciado.

Some of the injured were listed in critical condition and some have minor injuries.

Police said a male and a female, both suffering from gunshot wounds were taken into custody.

Police said the owner of the restaurant does not have the proper permits to operate the home as a restaurant, but was cooperating with police and providing information.

No other information was released.
