Red cross provides shelter and comfort to Kern River Valley area residents

Posted

The American Red Cross of Kern County continues to provide sheltering for residents of the Kern River Valley area affected by the Erskine Fire.

We are transitioning our current shelter to:

  • Kernville Elementary: 13350 Sierra Way, Kernville, CA  93238

Our volunteers have been working to provide lodging, meals, and comfort to affected residents,” said Executive Director Barry Falke, “This fire is affecting hundreds of families, and the local Red Cross disaster team has risen to the occasion.”

We appreciate the good intentions of people who want to donate items, but financial donations are the quickest and best way to get help to the people who need it most.  Visit redcross.org/donate to contribute to local disaster relief efforts.

The Red Cross urges everyone to follow evacuation orders from local law enforcement and have an emergency kit ready go for any disaster including wildfires.

Due to client privacy, media may be allowed inside the shelter with the approval of the shelter supervisor.
