Report: Coffee shortages could be on the horizon

Coffee production could decrease by as much as 50% by 2050, according to a new report by The Climate Institute in Australia. Climate change is estimated to cut the area fitting for coffee production in half by then.

Over 120 million people in over 70 countries rely on the coffee industry for their incomes. The crop is the second most valuable commodity exported by developing countries with a value of $19 billion in 2015.

The report predicts that by 2080, wild coffee could become extinct.
