The Tehachapi City Council voted unanimously to enact an interim ordinance banning recreation marijuana sales and outdoor cultivation on Monday, November 21.
This comes two weeks after California voters passed Proposition 64, which legalized the sale, cultivation, possession and consumption of marijuana for recreational use.
The ordinance places a 45-day ban on recreational marijuana sales as well as outdoor cultivation while the city seeks more information on the regulation of recreational use.
However, 45 days could be extended to nearly a year if the council finds it necessary. According to the City Attorney, it could be extended another year if there is sufficient evidence to justify that ruling.
