Two correctional officers for the Fresno County Sheriff's Office were shot Saturday morning after a man entered the main lobby and opened fire.

Juanita Davila and Toamalama Scanlan, the two officers who were shot, were transported to a local hospital with head and neck injuries.

Davila is listed in critical but stable condition and Scanlan is in critical condition.

Fresno police officials say 37-year-old Thong Vang entered the main lobby of the jail shortly after 8:30 Saturday morning. Police say about 15 visitors were in the lobby at the time Vang entered. He tried to cut to the front of the visitation line, but was told to wait his turn.

Police say Vang began to show signs of bizarre behavior before Davila and Scanlan approached Vang and told him to take a seat.

Vang refused and pulled a handgun out of his clothing and shot both officers.

A responding lieutenant correctional officer fired shots at Vang, who returned fire. No one was struck.

Officers tried to use a Taser on Vang, but Vang ran into a hallway before dropping his weapon and surrendering.

Vang was arrested and taken to the hospital with minor scrapes and cuts.

Police say Vang served 16 years for multiple rape charges involving teenagers 14 years and under. He was released in 2014.
