On June 3, 2017 at 4:36 p.m., officers with the Bakersfield Police Department responded to the Family Dollar, located at 333 Union Avenue for a shooting that had just occurred.
Upon arrival officers located an adult male, Carlos Munoz, 41, on the ground to the front of the business. Investigators responded and determined that Munoz had been shot in the upper torso and later died from his injures.
Investigators were able to identify three suspects who were involved in this incident as, Jose Zambrano, 33, Juan Rubio, 28, and Jose Urenda, 35.
On June 14, 2017 at approximately 11:00 p.m., officers were able to detain Zambrano and Rubio without incident. At about 5:00 a.m., on June 15, 2017 officers responded to a residence in the 1100 block of Snyder Lane to locate Urenda; however, as officers approached, he ran from the residence. Officers were able to locate Urenda in the nearby area and he was taken into custody with the use of a police K9.
All three suspects were later arrested and booked into the Kern County Jail for murder, conspiracy, and solicitation to committ murder.
