A man accused of hitting another with his car over the weekend appeared in court for the first time on Tuesday.

23 -year-old Frank Hillman pleaded not guilty to murder in connection to the killing on Sunday.

Hillman is accused of hitting another man with his car after a fight at a motel in central Bakersfield. Police say they received a call of a man lying on the ground in the driveway of The Tower Motel. Hillman allegedly fled the scene but returned to turn himself in. It is still unclear what lead up to the fight.

The Kern County Sheriff’s office identified the victim of the murder as 41-year old Shawn Bivins of Bakersfield.

Hillman is being held on a million dollar bond and is due in court again next Tuesday.
