One person is dead and another was rescued after plummeting off a California highway overpass early Wednesday morning.

The incident happened at around 2:47 a.m. local time along southbound southbound Interstate 15 in Escondido.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a caller reported seeing a car stopped in the HOV lane and two men exiting the vehicle to use the bathroom. The caller said the men had fallen over the side, plunging several feet onto San Dieguito park.
