Pentagon spokesman John Kirby has confirmed that an explosion has taken place outside of the Kabul airport.

In tweet he says casualties are unclear at this time. White Officials have briefed the President on the situaiton

Kirby is currently scheduled to given an update on the evacuation efforts in Afghanistan at 7:30 this morning.
