Samsung recalls washing machines due to injury risk

Posted
and last updated

After nine injury reports by consumers of Samsung's Top-Load Washing Machines, the company is recalling them.

One person reported a broken jaw, one reported an injured shoulder and others have been fall-related injuries. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission says the washing machine's top can detach from the chassis while in use and harm an individual.

There have been more than 700 reports of excessive vibration or tops detaching, according to the CPSC.

Samsung's voluntary recall letter

The recall involves more than 30 models of the top-loader. Those who have bought one of the models are asked to contact Samsung to receive a free, in-home repair, a rebate or possibly a refund. The washing machines were sold at Best Buy, The Home Depot, Lowes, Sears and other home appliance stores nationwide from March 2011 to November 2016. They cost between $450 and $1,500.
