Senate Democrats blocked a $1.1 billion bill to fight the Zika virus, saying it was too political.
The potentially devastating virus continues to spread in Florida, bringing the number of locally transmitted cases to 67.
The bill was attached to next year’s military construction and Veterans Affairs spending plan.
Democrats allege Republicans doomed the bill by adding such provisions such as blocking funding for Planned Parenthood and allowing the Confederate battle flag to fly at veterans’ cemeteries.
This is the third time the Zika funding bill has failed in the Senate.
It would need 60 votes to pass.
