A man has been charged with a felony after authorities say he attempted to rob a Fresno County Sheriff's deputy sheriff.
The incident happened on October 31st. Around 8:30 a.m., David Kling approached a Fresno County Sheriff's deputy sheriff in the area of Fresno and P Streets in downtown Fresno. The deputy, who was off-duty and not in uniform at the time, was walking towards his office in the courthouse. According to FCSO, Kling approached the deputy and told him that someone stole all of his property and that he needed money. FCSO says Kling then began to reach into his jacket and told the deputy that he wanted all of his money. The deputy saw Kling begin to pull a gun out of his jacket and grabbed ahold of his hand. A second deputy, who was also off-duty and walking towards work at the courthouse, saw what was happening and intervened.
Due to the jurisdiction, Fresno PD was called and arrested Kling. Upon examination, Kling's weapon was a BB gun that FCSO says looked similar to a Beretta handgun.
Kling was booked into the Fresno County Jail on a felony charge of attempted robbery. His bail is set at $12,500.
