It seems the sun is finally shining on Foothill. Jason Oliver is in his fourth season coaching at the school and he and the program have faced their share of adversity. Just three wins in three years.
"The last few years things start off as bad as they did in that game, all the heads are down and the game is over with," Oliver said.
Friday night his team trailed Arvin by 13 points late in the third quarter but senior quarterback Hugo Santana says this time, the Trojans' heads never dropped. "I knew we had it in us. I knew we could come back," he said.
Foothill went on to win 31-30. A big win for a program that has spent years trying to rebuild but because it happened early in the season it's a trend they're hoping to continue. "We feel more confident now," said Santana.
Thanks to Santana and some healthy players around him coach Oliver thinks this could be a special season. "He's just that settling voice in the huddle now to when they hear his voice and he exudes confidence," he said.
But despite such a big win, Santana says the team's goals remain the same. "Get the ring," he said. "(It's) senior year, make it our best. We're going to try hard."
