On Tuesday, at 10:30 a.m., the Bakersfield Fire Department conducted live wild land firefighter training on Casa Loma just east of Cottonwood Road. Wild land Firefighting can be some of the most complex, labor intensive and dangerous operations that firefighters perform.

This training drill is the culmination of their yearly training plan and incorporates a multi-faceted opportunity for Bakersfield Firefighters to hone their skills.

Live wild land fire training utilizing various firefighting resources provides a valuable training opportunity for firefighters. BFD's Battalion Chief Anthony Galagaza says "the concern we have around Bakersfield and Kern County is we have an urban interface, and we have homes intertwined with the wildland issues"

Bakersfield Fire Department plans to continue using the old Valle Grande Golf Course for live wildfire training so if you see smoke in this area, don' be alarmed.
