Augustine Flores volunteered to serve our country when he was just 17-years-old. He's a WWII veteran of three separate tours of duty.

"Getting a purple heart is not something you desire or hope for" says Flores. "On the assault of Saipan I lead a machine gun section and I hit a railroad and knew I was wounded", said Flores.

Flores is among 20 veterans featured on an 18-month calendar created by local photographer Petrina Harris.

"My father is a Vietnam Veteran and I wanted to do something to benefit the local brave men and women in Bakersfield", said Harris.

Proceeds from the sale of the calendar will benefit Honor Flight Kern County.

"Donations are critical to this program because every single bit of that 1,500 for that veteran to fly to the memorial is donated", said Harris.

Donations are used to send veterans to Washington D.C. to see the memorials built in their honor, at no cost.

The next honor flight trip will take place in September with Vietnam veterans on board the flight. The next trip after that will take place in October with Korean and WWII veterans.

The calendars are $25 each and can be purchased at crazybusybee.com.
