The Defense Department is reporting that an American service member was killed in Afghanistan.
According to the Defense Department, a second American and six Afghan soldiers were wounded after their patrol triggered an Improvised Explosive Device near Lashkar Gar in the Helmand Province.
In a statement, General John W. Nicholson, commander of USFOR-A and Resolute Support said, "On behalf of all of U.S. Forces - Afghanistan, as well as Resolute Support, our deepest sympathies go out to the families and friends of those involved."

The Department of Defense has not identified the service member pending next-of-kin notice.
