Fatima Bernardes is to Brazil what Oprah Winfrey is to the United States.

Encontro com Fatima Bernardes is one of the most popular shows in Brazil and is owned by Rede Globo, which reaches 99.5 percent of the population.

Upon arriving at the show, Globo served breakfast while we waited for the studio to be setup for the day's show.

The producers brought us to the front of the show yelling, "Estados Unidos, Estados Unidos!" The show was really compelling even though the entire thing was in Portuguese and I could only understand snippets of what they were saying.

With a company that wields so much power, I thought that the subjects during the show would be something to influence all of Latin America. However with the Olympics going on, they focused on athletes on Tinder and foods the athletes should eat to stay healthy.

The whole show was a great experience but I just felt that perhaps she could have used her platform for bringing awareness to everything else going on during the Olympics, not just the fun stuff.
