BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KERO) — Norris School District announced its schools will be returning to a distance learning format starting Monday.

According to the district's website, an uptick in positive COVID-19 cases in the community and potential exposures within the district has created a multitude of staffing limitations.

Distance learning will continue through Friday, Jan. 8 and in-person instruction will resume on Monday, Jan. 11.

"Please remember that when in-person instruction resumes, it is critical that you do not send your child(ren) to school if they are sick or if they have come into contact with a COVID-19 positive person. Following our safety guidelines is crucial for our schools to remain open and staffed appropriately," said District Superintendent, Kelly Miller.

Miller also stated that the pause is voluntary and not related to a COVID-19 outbreak within the district.
