Bakersfield Fire responds to over a thousand calls for illegal fireworks over the weekend

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The Bakersfield Fire Department said it received 1,062 calls for fireworks since Friday night.

BFD said that number accounts for calls starting at 9 p.m. Friday.

Officials with BFD said this number was a "tremendous amount" based on their experience.

According to BFD, fireworks can only be set off on specific days and times. Currently, fireworks are illegal within the city limits.

BFD said that all fireworks are illegal at this time. "There has been an increase in illegal fireworks activity, and the BFD has established teams of unmarked vehicles and fire engine companies to issue citations in the amount of $1,000 to those who violate fireworks laws."
