BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The Bakersfield Fire Department said it received 1,062 calls for fireworks since Friday night.

BFD said that number accounts for calls starting at 9 p.m. Friday.

Officials with BFD said this number was a "tremendous amount" based on their experience.

BFD said that all fireworks are illegal at this time. "There has been an increase in illegal fireworks activity, and the BFD has established teams of unmarked vehicles and fire engine companies to issue citations in the amount of $1,000 to those who violate fireworks laws."

People who wish to report illegal fireworks, can call (661) 324-6551 or (661) 324-4542.
