Home invasion suspect Henry Melendez was convicted Wednesday of first degree burglary, assault with a semi-automatic firearm, and attempted first degree robbery as well as additional enhancements for firearms use and wearing body armor during the commission of a violent crime.

Back in December 2015, two men in masks forced entry into a Bakersfield home where a husband, wife, and three children were sleeping.

One of the masked men, Melendez, entered with a handgun drawn. The husband fired multiple shots into Melendez before he escape through a window.

Bakersfield police apprehended Melendez only a few houses away from the scene.

His sentencing is currently set for September 27. Melendez is facing up to 26 years in prison.
