BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Four workers of the Bakersfield Homeless Center’s highway cleanup crew were injured following a crash on Highway 178 Tuesday.
According to the California Highway Patrol, just before noon Tuesday crews were picking up trash alongside the highway with a Caltrans truck following behind them. CHP said for reasons still unknown, another vehicle veered off the road and sideswiped the Caltrans truck. CHP said the truck continued on and hit the workers.
CHP reported two workers had minor to moderate injuries and the third worker had major injuries. CHP said the driver of the Catrans truck reported some pain following the crash. They were all taken to Kern Medical for treatment.
CHP said the driver of the truck remained on the scene and cooperated.
