What started off as a taxi driver picking up a fare turned into a car-jacking that followed with a suspect robbing a Jack In The Box and leading police on a chase ending in the Los Angeles area.
It all started around 1 a.m. when Bakersfield Police responded to the area of Chinta Drive and Stine Road for a report of a car-jacking with a gun.
That's when police learned that the victim was a taxi driver who was picking up a fare in his personal vehicle when a suspect, identified as 34-year-old Arturo Gonzalez, took his vehicle and took off.
Then 10 minutes later officers responded to a robbery at the Jack In The Box at 2111 Taft Highway.
Police say Gonzalez was driving the original car-jacking vehicle. While robbing the fast food restaurant, a gun was fired.
Following the robbery, officers found the stolen vehicle on southbound 99 and a pursuit ensued.
During the chase BPD turned over the pursuit to CHP who saw the chase come to an end in Los Angeles County.
Gonzalez was taken into custody without incident.
No injuries were reported in either crime.
