A couple has been hospitalized after they had to be rescued from the Greenhorn Mountains on Wednesday night.

According to the Kern County Sheriff's Office, the couple got lost in the area of Highway 178 and Rancheria Road. A 65-year-old man and his 68-year-old wife left their vehicle after it got stuck in mud.

KCSO Search and Rescue along with Kern Valley Search and Rescue started looking for the couple. Kern County Fire's rescue helicopter was called in to help with the search, ultimately finding the couple.

According to KCSO, due to the couple's exposure to the cold they were taken to an area hospital.
