BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — According to documents from the Bakersfield Police Department, a sex offender failed to register and was found to be volunteering at a local church. He has been arrested on two felony charges; failure to register as a sex offender and failure to register - leave jurisdiction.

According to police records, officers with BPD responded to the area of 700 Jackson Street in August 2015 to conduct a Sex Registrant compliance check on Paul Fiero who is a registered sex offender for lewd acts with a child under 14 years old.

According to BPD, it was determined that Fiero did not reside at the location and he was in violation of his status as he had not registered for a new address. The Kern County District Attorney's Office then issued a warrant for his arrest.

In April 2018, officers with BPD were dispatched to Saint Paul's Anglican Parish regarding a suspicious circumstance report.

According to police records, the call for service was regarding Fiero being a volunteer at the church and possibly being in violation of his status.

Fiero was arrested for the warrant and violating his California Post Release status. Officers contacted a witness who stated that Fiero was on church property during children events on April 27 and April 28, according to police records.

Documents show that the witness also informed officers that Fiero had installed cameras on the outside of the church and Fiero had mentioned placing hidden cameras inside the church.

The police documents continue, stating that Fiero told officers he was unable to get the camera to work, so it was never set up and there was no way to view the footage. Fiero also told officers that the hidden camera was inside of his bag in the church.

After searching his bag, officers were not able to locate the hidden camera. A warrant has been issued to search Fiero's electronic devices.
