Locals react to Target's "inclusive" bathroom...

Controversy has erupted over target's inclusive bathroom policy welcoming members of the transgender community to use their restrooms and dressing rooms that supports that person's gender identity.

It’s a policy target has had for a while but last week they posted a statement on their website which caught the attention of the American Family Association, a very conservative Christian activist group.

The American family association says Target’s policy "endangers women and children by allowing men to frequent women's facilities.”

The American Family Association started a petition calling for a boycott of Target's inclusive policy, and now they have more than 700,000 signatures.

It’s a hot topic and the conversation is happening right here in Bakersfield.

Local LBGT community advocate says Target’s policy is great for business.

"Target's policy is great, it's an excellent example for other businesses and corporations that inclusively will increase your business and draw customers in, said Dean Welliver.

Doug Bennett is a pastor of Christian denomination here in Bakersfield, he says this issue is unfortunate but he won't stop going to target.

"Myself as a pastor and as a leader and founder of Magdalene hope I love people and I don't care what your sexual orientation is or how you self-identify,” said Bennett.
